I think it is clear by now that CMA is a different profession in more ways than one.
For starters, you can stand out among your CPA peers thanks to your expertise in financial information management.
While this article breaks down some key areas, let’s look at the salary of a certified public accountant from a first-world perspective.
How Much Do Medical Assistants Make?
For the 2021 survey, 79 countries around the world participated in the IMA Salary Survey, sharing their CMA salaries, education and certification information, job satisfaction and more.
In fact, 3,313 members responded. In 2019, 31.4% of respondents came from the US, but this year it’s 39.2%. In 2019, 53% of our respondents were CMAs, but this year that number has risen to 62%. These changes in the respondent population may affect some of the year-to-year comparisons, which I will touch on later.
2021 marks the seventh annual global survey, which is particularly noteworthy as we begin to emerge from difficult times. As author Shannon Charles says: “Businesses everywhere are facing unprecedented challenges.” All these challenges will affect the future of certified public accounting services in the world.
He indicated that the IMA was concerned about how the Chartered Accountant’s salary would be affected in the future and had taken time to identify measures that could affect it. Let’s dive in.

Adding the CMA designation to your resume really pays off. In 2018, CMAs earned 62% more in average salary and 67% more in total compensation than their non-CMA counterparts, but this trend continues to increase.
CMAs currently earn 56% more in average salary and 58% more in total compensation than their non-certified peers.
For starters, CMAs are older than CMAs. They have a lot of experience in this field and hold high management positions.

I have many clients who are CPAs who ask me if adding the CMA designation would be beneficial. Last year’s CMA salary survey had some interesting findings.
For starters, previous studies have found that CMAs earn 31% more in total compensation, while individuals with only their CPA earn 22% more compensation than their non-certified peers.
It’s clear from these results that earning your CMA and CPA validates different skill sets and each certification is important to achieving a ranking.
While I can’t brag about getting your CMA, 71% of respondents across all regions said that getting a Certified Public Accountant gave them the ability to get a job. And they love it.

IMA sent this survey to more than 20,000 IMA members located in the United States and received 1,300 user responses.
66% of these respondents used CMA certification and were found to earn 30% more than those without certification. Previous research has found that 75% of non-CMAs plan to pursue CMA certification, indicating that others are influenced by this sign.
Despite special events in 2020, total base salary and total compensation increased in 2021.

If you live and work in the United States, you may be wondering what your annual salary will be in CMA Accounting.
The minimum wage for 2019 is $100,000, a 6.4% increase from 2018. Total compensation in the most recent survey increased to $105,000 and total earnings were $118,000.
Holding the CMA certification is highly beneficial. Respondents holding CMA certification were found to report 30% higher total compensation than those without certification.
Although it is clear that certifications are better than no certifications, respondents were asked how a Certified Public Accountant certification would affect their career. We found that 87% of CMA holders believe their certification has increased their confidence in their ability to perform in their positions. Currently, 64% consider their payroll to be successful.

So if you’ve ever wondered whether or not your CMA is worth it, most people believe it’s worth your time!
Your CMA accounting salary depends on the industry you work in, but keep in mind that these numbers are not representative.
CMAs with the highest base salaries are found in the agriculture industry, earning $122,003. Their total cost is $142,003.
CMAs working in public accounting earn the lowest minimum wage and total compensation between $86,000 and $97,150.

To get an idea of what you can earn professionally, below is a list of CMA salaries in the United States for other occupations:
In 2018, we saw a decrease in the minimum wage across all sectors, however, the numbers have been increasing since then.
For example, all but the Plains region experienced an increase in base wages. The biggest increase was in the Mountain region, where professionals received a total compensation of 12%. The least increase in total compensation was in the northeastern states.
To get a better idea of how much money you’ll earn as a full-time CMA, here’s a look at average salaries by region:

I am happy to report that the gender pay gap is almost non-existent worldwide. Unfortunately, there is still a significant wage gap between men and women in the United States.
Last year, women earned 86 percent of base pay and 84 percent of their husbands’ total compensation. This is a decrease from last year’s survey.
The biggest takeaway from these statistics is that the biggest pay gap for women occurs when they are in senior management positions. Women’s base wages and total compensation are only 79% of their male counterparts, representing the largest pay gap to date.
It is true that there are significant changes and implications for Certified Management Accountant fees both worldwide and directly in the United States. In light of the current political shift, we’re seeing some reductions in compensation, but that doesn’t mean earning your CMA isn’t worth it.

The most interesting thing about the Middle East is the level of growth it has experienced in recent years.
The Cma Advantage: An Update
In fact, some countries in the Middle East have increased significantly in the CMA sector, and the IMA should take this into account when conducting the latest wage analysis.
There has been a lot of growth in the Middle East over the last few years. In fact, the number of responses used for this year’s salary survey tripled since the 2017 survey was published.
Perhaps most interestingly, even though 22 countries make up the Middle East, 70% (74.7% to be exact!) of respondents to the IMA Salary Survey accounted for only 8 of them. Countries with the highest participation include:
Most responses came from men with an average age of 36. Among this group, 100% of respondents had a baccalaureate degree, while only 41% had an advanced degree.
