Google Certification For Project Management – Google announced that it plans to introduce a project management license in July 2020. It immediately caught my eye for several reasons.

First of all, I liked that this could be a monthly subscription. Second, Google was addressing their talent gap with these courses, such as the Academy.

The main reason I wanted to take this course is that a lot of emphasis is placed on learning the role of the project manager as a combination of several responsibilities, which reflects what we have been seeing in the last few years as a development organization.

As mentioned above, there are six chapters that must be completed to obtain the certificate. Each is accompanied by a video featuring Googlers who share their (often inspiring) stories about how they came to work at Google, some of the challenges they’ve faced, and what they love about their work.

The videos are well produced, and the content is excellent. Video materials are accompanied by additional notes, abbreviations and indexes. Knowledge transfer is measured through experiments and practical tasks, such as writing a high-level email or creating a Gantt chart. The work is also peer-reviewed.

During the course, several documents are created that can be used as templates for project managers in their future work. Also, the additional calculations provided are very good.

There is an order to the look, but you don’t have to follow it. However, you can’t go to the last chapter until you finish all the previous ones.

As the title suggests, this chapter covers the basics of project management, the project life cycle, and the qualities and skills expected of a project manager. There is also a cognitive component to change management.

Finally, call me biased, but the worst of the lot was Google’s wrong explanation of the scrum in rugby: “Scrum refers to a formation in rugby where all players on the team lean forward, put their heads together, then. unit trying to get precious yards to the goal line. ” Here is an accurate description of what rugby and project management have in common.

Overall, I would recommend this course to both new and experienced project managers. For young people, it is an interesting combination of fictional and practical examples from Google, touching on everything that is important in our work, to say the least.

From a high-level perspective, I enjoyed the emphasis that was placed on the team, project communication, and creating the right documents – valuable things to remember the time.

Also, it’s a great way to freshen up your LinkedIn profile and make the job of Google employers easier.

If something as complex as building the world’s fastest System 1 can be done using Agile, it can work for your next software development project.
