Airline Pilot Salary
The pilot shortage in the United States continues, but one airline in the Middle East is having trouble finding qualified candidates.
Speaking to reporters at England’s Farnborough Air Show on Monday, Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker said the company had decided to hire 700 pilots a few months ago and had received 20,000 applications.
It said all applications came from people who were “qualified and qualified”, meaning the pilots had the necessary training and certification to fly the specific aircraft.
“They have to go through a very strict vetting process before we select them, because we’re very selective,” Al Baker said.

According to the executive director, applications were received from all over the world, except for the United States of America, and Qatar’s activities were not affected by personnel issues.
Qatar is not the only airline that receives thousands of applications to become a pilot. In May, Norwegian airline Norse Atlantic Airways accepted 3,000 applicants for its first 50 pilot jobs, all of whom were qualified candidates.
A Norwegian spokeswoman told Insider at the time that the number was higher than expected and that pilots were showing increased interest in flying the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
U.S. airlines haven’t had much luck with the hiring spree, which has led to a pilot shortage, causing problems for carriers and passengers. American Airlines and United Airlines each had to ground about 100 regional planes because they didn’t have enough pilots to fly, leading to reduced routes.
